I am 25 yrs. now, having severe hair-loss and dandruff too. Earlier I had a long, soft, silky and shiny black hair, but now it's thin, brownish, dry and frizzy. Can I restore the original texture of my hair at home?

The moment you start losing hair, it can become worrisome as much of one’s appearance lies in the fact of having healthy hair. If you have dandruff as well, it can be even more bothersome as dandruff can be socially embarrassing and can even cause increased hair fall. Dandruff not only causes hair loss but also takes away from the hair its sheen and spoils the texture of the hair.

Dandruff is nothing but dead cells that are shed off the scalp. Normally, skin cells mature and fall off as dandruff in smaller quantities over the period of one month, but if the cells mature and are shed in two to seven days, the condition is considered severe. Dandruff can also be caused by fungal and bacterial infections. Although it is not a chronic problem, it is hindrance to our daily life and can cause low-esteem if the problem becomes too obvious.

Dandruff and hair loss solutions. Dandruff can either be oily or dry, based on one’s skin type and weather conditions. Oily dandruff is quite stubborn and is difficult to get rid of. However, dry dandruff can strip the hair of its sheen and shine and make the hair appear lifeless. Hair that is dry and frizzy is mostly caused by dandruff.

There are dandruff and hair loss remedies that are natural and easily available at home. Treatment for hair loss can be done at home without much hassle. To replenish the body with vitamins for hair loss consume more vitamin-rich foods like green leafy vegetables, carrots, beetroot, okra, apricots, avocados, melons, pulses, and cereals; these will supply the body with all the needed nutrients. Drinking plenty of water to cleanse the body of toxins and improve blood circulation is also helpful. One should try to avoid coffee, alcohol, and smoking as they constrict oxygen flow in the blood cells, which, in turn, affects the hair. Vitamin supplements can be consumed to reduce dandruff and sustain hair loss re-growth.

For dandruff and hair loss treatment, a gentle massage using yogurt and lemon juice on the scalp is believed to be helpful. Allow it to rest for 30 minutes before washing it off with a gentle herbal shampoo. Lemon is also an excellent remedy for dandruff and hair loss. To restore color to the hair, you can boil curry leaves along with dried lemon peels and cumin seeds in coconut oil, and use the oil regularly to regain the lost luster and shine. Castor, olive and coconut oils are excellent dandruff and hair loss home remedies. Massage the oil onto the scalp before going to bed and let it stay over night. This helps in improving circulation, strengthens hair follicles, and nourishes hair re- growth.

Vitamins for hair loss are vitamin B, C, A and E. The sources of these are obtained from including flaxseed oil, salmon oil, primrose oil, beans, peas, carrots, soy beans, bran, nuts, eggs, brewer’s yeast, lentils, brown rice, oats, sunflower seeds, walnuts and other protein-rich foods in the diet. Vitamins for hair loss prevention are B6, A, and E, which help in promoting hair growth and improve hair texture and thickness. The lack of these vitamins can reverse hair growth. To stop hair loss naturally, you need to improve your diet and massage your scalp regularly. Keep the scalp clean by washing with a gentle shampoo on alternate days. This helps in clearing dandruff and hydrates the scalp. Vitamins for hair loss after pregnancy are vitamins B3, B5, B6, and B12, which the body can acquire through foods such as poultry, milk, eggs, dairy products, soybean, bulgur wheat, walnuts, avocado, and brown rice.

Spending some time in the sun also helps clear dandruff. Avoiding the use of heated hair styling instruments and regularly using warm oil to massage the scalp are some of the hair loss remedies that work.
