The information that you have provided is vague, in that there is no background information. Do you suffer from Constipation on a regular basis? Do you experience severe chronic constipation, or is this the exception? Frequent constipation is a sign of poor dietary habits or an unhealthy lifestyle. If you do suffer from frequent or chronic constipation, it would be prudent to make some drastic changes to your lifestyle and eating habits. Frequent constipation and even occasional incidents of constipation of this severity can result in serious disorders like piles, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, rectal prolapse, and even fecal impaction.
Right now what you are experiencing would in fact most likely be fecal impaction. This is caused because of a constipation problem. This happens when there is chronic or frequent constipation, and the hard stools cause the intestine and rectum to be packed so tightly that the normal thrusting action of the colon does not suffice to expel the stool. Fecal impaction is more common in children and older adults.
The main aim of your treatment should be to get rid of the impacted stool, and to take steps to ensure the prevention of constipation and fecal impactions in the future.
The impaction first needs to be softened with mineral oil, and an enema. After this is done part of the hardened stool can be removed by inserting the fingers and breaking off parts of the stool. This procedure is best performed by your doctor. You can however try using stool softeners at home. These over the counter medications are quite easily available and help pass soft, formed stools.
Natural remedies are unlikely to be of any help to you as the constipation problem has already progressed too far. Natural laxatives can however help you maintain normal bowel movements once this immediate problem has been resolved. After the fecal impaction has been removed you will need to establish a regular pattern of bowel movements and accordingly a regular pattern of consumption with a healthy diet. Suppositories and other mild laxatives may also be needed initially to retrain the bowels to a regular pattern of movement. Please keep in mind the seriousness of this problem, and make the necessary changes after the impaction is removed as there can be complications. If the impaction is not removed, there may be an over widening of the colon, or there may even be a complete blockage of the bowels. Both scenarios would necessitate emergency medical attention for removal of the impaction, and possibly a portion of the injured bowel as well.
