Vomiting is not a health condition by its self, but a symptom of an underlying health condition. However, in most cases it is reflective of a stomach infection or digestive disorder. Constant vomiting in adults could also occur due a condition known as cyclic vomiting syndrome. Although cyclic vomiting syndrome is commonly noticed among children, it can affect adults too. However, when it does occur in an adult, it usually takes a longer period to subside. The most common causes of this condition are cold or sinuses, allergies, stress or emotional excitement, overeating and consuming foods rich in saturated fat content. In some cases, motion sickness or pregnancy may also lead to cyclic vomiting syndrome. You may use home remedies to treat this condition, however, if your condition does not improve you will need to visit your doctor immediately.
- During a bout of vomiting the body loses a lot of water and electrolyte content. Therefore drinking electrolyte water proves beneficial in restoring the body’s electrolyte balance, as well as water content. Do not drink this solution at one go. Take one sip at a time; if possible have one teaspoon of this solution every five minutes in order to give your body enough time to assimilate the solution. If you drink it all at once your body will throw it up immediately. You can have a glass of electrolyte solution after every 3 hours for the first two days, decreasing its consumption from the third day onwards.
- You can also drink a glass of lemon juice mixed with warm water and honey. This solution should also be sipped slowly, in order to allow assimilation to take place. Lemon juice helps in keeping the body hydrated and also provides it with essential vitamins and minerals. Honey contains effective anti bacterial qualities, and helps in strengthening the body’s immune system. It also provides a soothing effect to the stomach lining and esophagus valve.
- Another effective remedy when it comes to treating nausea is ginger. Boil few pieces of ginger in a glass of water. Add two teaspoons of honey and sip this solution slowly. Ginger contains effective anti bacterial qualities, and will eliminate any stomach infection. Honey will add taste to this solution, and will also help in providing a soothing effect to your throat.
- For another effective remedy, heat three to four cloves of garlic in a pan and tie them in a muslin cloth. Lie down on your bed and inhale the steam from the garlic cloves. This will help reduce your urge to vomit.
If your symptoms persist you should visit a doctor immediately as you could be experiencing a gastrointestinal ailment.
