Uric Acid Containing Foods

What kind of fish causes uric acid?

High levels of uric acid lead to problems of significant internal pain and even the development of gout. If an affected individual ignores the problem for a significant period of time, the end result is possible kidney damage and joint deformation. Gout is a medical condition that has some similarities to arthritis and can have a very debilitating effect on your daily life as, in extreme situations, can significantly affect your movement. Avoiding the problem of high uric acid in the body revolves mainly around eating the right foods. Certain foods tend to increase the uric acid levels of the body and elevate the symptoms of gout. In most cases, the foods that tend to have this effect are usually animal organs and vegetables. Some of the more serious medical complications of gout include hypertension, obesity, mellitus as well as atherosclerosis, which is the hardening of the arteries. Under normal conditions, your body will eliminate the uric acid via the kidneys and if there is a complication of this normal process, uric acid will tend to build up and some hard, uric acid crystals will form in the joints.

Almost all types of meat contain high levels of uric acid and are the most common culprits of high uric acid levels. Most dangerous amongst them are red meats while white meats, such as poultry or fish should be consumed only in moderation. Fish, especially sardines in oil, are known to have high purine content and, again, should be avoided completely. Foods that have any yeast content such as bread, beer and alcohol should be avoided because of their high purine content and also because they hamper renal excretion in the kidneys.

When suffering from high uric acid levels, it is important that you drink plenty of water over the course of the day. About eight glasses of water should be consumed at a minimum if your overall weight is above one hundred and fifty pounds. A high intake of lemon juice is also known to be very beneficial when it comes to reducing the amount of joint pain you experience. Other juices that are known to be helpful include black cherry juice and fruits like bananas and apples. Exercise is an essential part of the recovery process and rigidly following an exercise plan for about 5 days in a week for about thirty minutes on each day will help significantly.
