Tardive dystonia is a type of Dystonia. This is a neurological disorder which causes muscle contractions and involuntary movement. This disorder can be inherited or it may be caused by birth related factors. It may also be caused by physical trauma and poisoning. However, one of the main causative factors is a reaction to neuroleptic drugs. Tardive dystonia is classified as a type of secondary dystonia and the causes for it are identifiable. It may be necessary to discontinue these medications. However, if you discontinue it abruptly, you will risk suffering from withdrawal emergent syndrome. You will have to slowly lower your dosage so that it tapers off. Furthermore, immediate treatment for the condition will help to prevent it from getting worse and will shorten the recovery period.   

There are several medications and treatments for this condition and your doctor will be able to guide you as per the severity of the case and your medical history. As far as possible monotherapy is preferred as there are much lower chances of suffering from negative reactions. Some of the common treatments for this condition include clonazepam, reserpine and anticholinergics. Botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox, is also an effective though temporary treatment for this condition. Vitamin E has been seen ton be beneficial in prevent and treating this condition. Although it is not a cure, Vitamin E helps to lessen the symptoms. Keep in mind that Vitamin E can be toxic in larger amounts and so you need to discuss your dosage with your doctor.  

Tardive dystonia is caused by a chemical imbalance and cannot be treated with natural remedies alone. However a healthy diet will help to ensure that the body is receiving essential nutrients which aid the healing process.
