Can we drink orange juice in cold and cough



A cold and cough is usually spread when droplets infected by a virus or bacteria enter the air, through a sneeze or a cough. There are around 200 various kinds of cold viruses that a person can catch. An average person suffers from these problems anywhere between two and five times a year. Children, can catch a cold about five to ten times a year. Both, coughs and cold usually last for about a week. Many people use over the counter medicines to get relief from both, cold and cough. These conditions lead to a runny nose, sore throat and could even lead to a loss in appetite. Most people are advised to increase their intake of liquids when they are affected by coughs and colds.

A cold can easily be prevented, by consuming high amount of vitamin C, which is present it fruits like oranges. Even if you consume Vitamin C after you are affected by colds and coughs, it would provide your immune system the boost it needs to fight the germs and the infection. This will help you feel better and you may recover faster. Another remedy that is often recommended, is drinking a lot of water and other clear liquids, which includes tea, juices and soups. In case of severe coughs, some patients are asked to go on a diet that comprises water and orange juice, for a while. After the juice fast, the patient is asked to go on a fruit diet, which includes apples, pears, oranges, grapes, peaches and melons.

Therefore, pure orange juice could be good for a cough and a cold, as it contains high amounts of Vitamin C. Adding a small amount of sugar to it, may be helpful too. The best way to consume orange juice in a cough and cold is by diluting the juice of one orange in a cup of warm water. If consumed this way, you can drink orange juice up to six times a day. However, if the juice is cold, it could worsen your sore throat and cough. The cold temperature of the juice can weaken your immune system. In addition to that, orange juice is acidic and an excessive intake of the juice (about 3 to 4 glasses a day), could give you an upset stomach. Another helpful remedy is to have a warm orange along with some hot tea. If you want to drink orange juice, please make sure that it is pure, not cold and that you don’t drink too much of it.
