Blood in the stool is a common ailment and affects thousands of people around the globe. There are several medical conditions that can cause such a symptom and these include piles or haemorrhoids. This occurs when the veins in the lower part of the rectum or anus get enlarged, tear or crack around the anal area. This is called anal fissures which are primarily caused by large or forced bowel movements. If you are suffering from a disease of the gastrointestinal tract or an infection, for instance, IBD or inflammatory bowel disease, bacterial infections or stomach ulcers, constipation and blood in the stool is likely to occur. In rare cases, if the rectal blood is bright red and is accompanied by severe cramps, it could be caused by cancer, particularly colon cancer.
The most common cause for blood in the stool, however, is haemorrhoids caused by Constipation, a lack of exercise and overeating. A poor diet consisting of almost no fiber content, too much of processed junk food, inordinate amounts of white sugar and bread and very little water can cause this condition. Drink about 5-6 liters of water a day and supplement your diet with fresh fruit juices. Make the fruit juice at home and take care to consume it along with its fiber content instead of throwing it away. Pour a teaspoon of clarified butter into a warm glass of milk and drink every night before going to bed. As soon as you wake up, drink about three glasses of warm water and then go for a brisk morning walk. This will help clear your system and ensure good bowel movements. Sugarcane, papaya, apples, tomatoes and beetroot are beneficial for this condition and can be had on a daily basis. If you have been suffering from chronic constipation, dry grapes can help as they possess laxative properties. Soak a handful of dry grapes overnight and consume them early in the morning on an empty stomach. Figs can also be soaked overnight and had in the morning to help with this condition. You could also drink a glass of warm water into which half a lime has been squeezed. You may also add a little salt in it to taste. Drink the juice extracted from raw spinach or alternatively eat cooked spinach. This usually helps those suffering from chronic constipation. If these remedies do not work for you, it would be advisable to consult your local health care provider to rule out any other cause for the blood and constipation.
