Kidney failure cannot be cured with natural remedies. It is necessary to consult a doctor immediately who will prescribe the right course of treatment for you. However, here is some information that may help you understand the condition better. The kidneys remove waste matter from the blood through the urine. Kidneys also regulate the water levels and the various minerals required by the body for proper functioning. In addition, they also produce hormones which control other body functions. There are many other organs in the body that depend on the kidneys to function properly. When the kidneys fail temporarily, it is known as acute kidney failure. Chronic kidney failure results when the kidneys are affected permanently. The causes of acute kidney failure are many. Here, the kidneys may regain normal functioning, but dialysis may be required until the kidneys start to function again. In chronic kidney failure, there is a slow deterioration of tiny filters in the kidney, called nephrons, which remove waste. The nephrons may get damaged due to conditions such as high levels of blood sugar and high blood pressure. Sometimes, if these conditions are taken care of in time, chronic kidney failure may be prevented.
In the initial stages, the only treatment that may be required is a special diet or medication. But when the kidneys completely start to lose their ability to function normally, dialysis or transplantation is required. Dialysis is a method of cleaning the blood by removing waste and excess water. Dialysis is of two types, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Hemodialysis is generally done in a hospital dialysis unit or may also be done at home with the aid of a nurse. Home dialysis requires special training. Peritoneal dialysis may also be done in a hospital, but usually one is trained to do this at home independently. Kidney transplants are now widely considered as the best way to treat kidney failure. However, all patients may not be suitable for a transplant and a donor organ may not always be available when required.
It is very important to regulate your diet when suffering from kidney failure. When acute renal failure occurs, the kidneys are not able to excrete sodium and potassium from the body and as such the electrolyte balance is affected. Therefore mineral intake must be restricted and salt (sodium) must be avoided, until the swelling reduces. A diet that is low in protein and salt; and high in carbohydrates is recommended in kidney failure. It is also important to avoid fried and sour foods. The daily fluid intake must be slightly higher than the amount of urine excreted as this helps in replacement of fluids.
