Information and Cures for Cyst

A closed sac or pouch of tissue filled with air, pus or other fluid or semi-solid substances that appears below the skin or in other parts of the body is called a cyst. Apart from the skin, this growth covered by a membrane which may occur in the lungs, liver, ovaries, or between muscle and skin tissues. What causes a cyst may vary from one person to the other, but it is understood that defects in growing organs at the embryo stage can lead to the formation of cysts. Cysts may also occur because of infections, obstructions in the flow of body fluids, inflammation, and tumors. Certain types of cysts may be caused by inherited genetic factors.

While cysts on the skin or in the tissues just below the skin can be seen, those that occur on the internal organs like liver or ovaries cannot be felt or seen. Cysts in the breast may be felt, even if they are not visible. It must be remembered that most cysts turn out to be benign and can be left untreated, unless they are infected or they become painful. In the case of fluid filled cysts, the fluid in the sac is drained or aspirated through needle or a catheter is inserted into the pouch. Once the fluid is drawn out, the cyst is deflated and heals with medication. This is one of the most common cures for cyst. Draining a cyst at home is not recommended as it may lead to secondary infections later. It is best not to scratch, squeeze, pick or try to remove the cyst in any other way. In case a cyst is accidentally scratched or bumped and it becomes red or is oozing fluid, it should be washed with soap and water and left covered with a bandage until a medical professional can take a look at it.

Surgery may be advised as a cure for cyst when the size and location of the cyst make it necessary for surgical intervention. In case the surgeon suspects that the cyst is a cancerous growth, a biopsy of the cystic sac may be performed to rule out malignancy. Ovarian cysts are usually removed surgically, particularly when the woman experiences pain or bleeding. Ovarian cysts do not occur when a women is pregnant. Natural treatment for cyst in the ovary has been tried by administering natural progesterone. This cure of cyst works because the natural progesterone mimics the effect of a pregnancy, signaling the ovaries to stop the growth of cysts. Herbs like black cohosh, dandelion root, milk thistle, chasteberry, as well as wild yam, castor oil and bee pollen have been used successfully in the treatment of ovarian cysts.

Home remedies for cysts that appear on the skin include the application of turmeric paste on the cyst several times a day for a month or more, until the cyst dries out. Applying a warm compress on a sore or red cyst helps to soothe the pain by increasing the circulation of blood to the area and reducing the inflammation. Some cysts on the back or neck may be annoying because they rub against clothing or hair. It is best to avoid friction and abrasion from constant rubbing against hair, straps of clothing or bags as this could lead to soreness on the surface and infection or bursting the cystic pouch and oozing of the fluid.

Holistic treatments and cures for cystic acne, fibrosis and Cystitis suggest that a change in dietary habits to include plenty of fruits and vegetables goes a long way towards healing them. Ovarian cysts and sebaceous cysts are very often caused by hormonal imbalances in the body. Eating healthy food and adding mineral and vitamin supplements to tackle deficiency results in overall improvement in the body’s immune system. This enables the body to tackle better any infection and protect the body’s cells from any abnormal changes.

Cysts are little lumps that appear generally around head, neck and back region with no noted pain.

Don’t touch or squeeze the cyst. Soak a clean cotton cloth in warm water and apply it over the cyst several times a day. This will help the contents in the cyst to ooze out. Clean the contents with cotton and wash the area properly.

Visit a dermatologist to treat it with medication, in case if the cyst is paining or growing large.
