To treat Constipation and stimulate bowel movement, it is important to exercise regularly, drink plenty of water (8-10 glasses daily) and eat a high fibre diet. Fiber stimulates peristalsis and movement of food through the intestine and proper bowel movement. The water holding capacity of the fiber is an important factor. Make sure to include complex carbohydrates and unrefined foods in your diet. Eat lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Whole grain breads and cereals should be substituted for refined ones. Coarse bran as a breakfast cereal is very beneficial. Raw vegetables or salads should be encouraged.
Last but not the least, it is important to be stress free. Worry tends to aggravate constipation.
