But all of us like flashing a perfect set of white teeth when smiling, and yet, wanting to do so can be rather expensive with a trip to the dentist. Even whitening kits that can be used at home can put a dent in your pocket. Fortunately, there are some home remedies that can help whiten teeth naturally.
Home Remedies to Whiten Teeth
There are a few simple home remedies that you can try at home. However, keep in mind that none of these remedies have been scientifically proven, and they may or may not work.
- Apple, Carrots and Celery: These vegetables and fruits are natural stain removers as they boost the production of saliva. They also contain high levels in vitamin C that helps kill bacteria and prevents gingivitis and gum disease. You could also just rub a raw carrot stick on your teeth.
- Baking Soda: Baking soda helps you get rid of stains on your teeth. Just mix a teaspoon of baking soda with three-quarter teaspoon of water and make a paste. Brush your teeth with this paste. Use this remedy only once in a fortnight.
- Bay Leaves: Crush dried bay leaves along with an orange peel and use the mix on top of your toothpaste. You could also just rub the mixture directly on your teeth with your finger.
- Citrus Fruits: Using fruits like lemons, oranges and pineapple helps you produce saliva that automatically cleans your teeth. Rinse your mouth with a mix of water and lemon juice in equal proportion two times a week. Do not do this more than twice a week as the acidic content in citrus fruits could adversely affect your teeth.
- Clove Oil: Just before you brush your teeth, add a drop of clove oil to your toothpaste and then brush your teeth.
- Hydrogen Peroxide: Using hydrogen peroxide to white your teeth is best done in the form of a mouth wash. Gargle for 60 seconds with a quarter cup of hydrogen peroxide as a mouth wash before brushing. Wash your mouth with water, and then brush your teeth as you normally would. Following this everyday will help keep the teeth white.
- Strawberries: Mash a ripe strawberry and add a pinch of baking soda to the mixture till it is in pulp form. Apply the paste on your teeth with a toothbrush and leave it for five minutes before rinsing it out with water. Do not do this more than once a week.
