Without looking at the rash it is difficult to diagnose the cause of the rash, but dry and red skin rash may most probably be a condition called contact dermatitis. Contact dermatitis is caused due to contact with certain irritants, to which your skin may have become allergic or extra sensitive. These may include:
- Acids and chemicals
- Alkaline materials
- Fabric softeners
- Solvents
- Cement
- Pesticides / weed killers
- Rubber gloves
- Shampoos
- Adhesives (false eyelashes)
- Balsam of Peru (cosmetics, foods and drinks)
- Fabrics
- Fragrances (cosmetics, soaps, moisturizers)
- Nail polish and hair dye
- Metal (jewelry, watch straps, etc.)
- Poison ivy and other plants
- Avoid rubbing the skin.
- Use soap sparingly. Use a gentle face wash instead.
- For cleaning and washing face, use lukewarm water.
- Do not rub; just pat dry the area.
- As much as possible, let the affected area be exposed to air.
- Discard any newly used cosmetics or lotions which may be the reason behind the rash.
- Avoid applying cosmetics directly on the rash.
- Try using calamine lotions.
- Make a wash by boiling one ounce of witch hazel bark in a pint of water. Apply it to the skin and leave for half an hour before rinsing.
- Slit an Aloe Vera sideways, open it and apply the juice on the rash.
- Apply olive oil, Calendula Essential Oil or Chamomile.
- Skin rashes caused due to eczema can be treated by applying Wild Pansy to the rash.
- Rash caused due to poison ivy or poison oak can be treated by gently rubbing a crushed paste of the leaf of Jewel weed.
