What is the quickest way to get rid of pimples caused due to make-up?

Products such as make-up, cosmetics, medicated skin ointments, shampoos and perfumes contain chemicals such as fragrances and preservatives that can irritate the skin or cause an allergic reaction. This is known as contact dermatitis. The common symptoms of contact dermatitis include reddened skin, a red rash or scaly and itchy skin.

Scratching the itchy skin can lead to further complications such as a skin infection and should be avoided as far as possible. Contact dermatitis is usually treated with the help of cortisone based creams such as hydrocortisone (Cortisone 10) and hydrocortisone acetate (Cort-aid). Applying any of these creams to the affected area will help reduce the swelling and other associated symptoms such as itchiness and redness.

If you have suffered from a more serious reaction you may need prescription strength medications. If there are blisters on your skin you may require treatment with antibiotics. In either of these cases, you should consult your doctor. If your reaction isn't too severe, there are a few home remedies that you can try to alleviate the symptoms.

The first step is to discontinue application of the make-up or acne medication that has caused the problem. Apply aloe vera juice to the affected areas with the help of a swab. Aloe vera juice has natural soothing properties that will help to keep your skin hydrated and provide quick relief from the itching caused from dry skin. You could also grate some fresh cucumber and apply the juice directly to the affected areas. This too will provide you with quick relief from any dryness and itching.

Applying ice to the swollen area will also provide relief from any inflammation. You can also massage your skin gently with a little olive oil.

Preventing such reactions in the future is the best remedy. There are several steps that you can take to avoid this including:

  • Massage your skin with vitamin E oil after a bath and dry gently
  • Read the list of ingredients on the package. If you notice an ingredient that may have caused a reaction in the past, avoid that product. Keep a track of all such ingredients.
  • When trying a new product, test a bit on a small patch of skin. The best areas for this are the inner wrist or elbow. If no reaction occurs within 24 hours, go ahead and use it.
  • When choosing make-up, use products that are hypoallergenic, non-comedogenic and free of fragrances. Be warned that these products may still cause a reaction.

Try to identify the cause and eliminate the same. Always remember to remove the make-up, by the end of the day. Allow your skin to breathe freely. Refer to a dermatologist before intake of any medication. For care and remedy from acne, visit a similarly answered question at, Home remedies for acne
