Within the first 24-30 hours it is best to Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate (RICE). This means don't move it much, put a package of frozen vegetables around it for 15-20 minutes each hour for at least 3 hours, wrap with a compression bandage , and try to keep it elevated. After 30-48 hours, you can use a 3 min hot/30sec. cold x3 treatment. Also, consider having an X-ray. Since there are so many small and fragile bones in the wrist, it is easy to have a hairline fracture. However, often these fractures show up better after a few days, when the bone begins to heal and the fracture lines are more visible on the films.
