what to do in case of a spider bite

Almost all people share their homes with these arachnids. Although spiders do a lot of good by keeping the insect population under control, the flip side of this coin is that you face the possibility of spider bites. A spider bite is generally not considered severe as spiders are supposed to be harmless. However, there are several species of spiders which are poisonous and as such, a bite from these species may lead to severe consequences. These harmful species of spiders inject venom which is sufficient to cause systemic toxicity and also in some cases, death.

Here are few easy home remedies to treat a spider bite:

  • You must first thoroughly wash the infected area with soap and water. You may also apply an antiseptic lotion on the wound or bite to prevent it from getting septic.
  • You may use cold compresses to relive the pain and itching caused by a spider bite.
  • Place a slice of bread on the infected area. The bread slice will absorb all the venom or poison injected by the spider.
  • You may grind a raw cabbage and apply the paste on the area of the spider bite. You will experience immediate relief from irritation and pain.
  • You may crush or grind basil leaves and apply it on the affected area to relieve the pain.
  • You may also place a garlic slice on the wound or bite on account of its antiseptic properties. You may also apply the juice or paste of garlic.
  • Rub baking soda alone or in combination with garlic paste to alleviate the pain.
  • You may also apply a fresh poultice of potatoes on the spider bite. This will help you relieve inflammation and irritation caused by the bite.
  • You may also sprinkle salt over the bite.
  • You should apply snake root to effectively treat a spider bite.
  • Turmeric is an excellent medicine to cure insect bites. You may also use turmeric in combination with olive oil.
  • You may also pour a spirit like vodka on the wound in order to relieve pain caused by the bite.
  • You must consume foods rich in Vitamin C like orange, grapefruit, lemon and guava to promote quicker healing.
