Large Pores: Hair follicles come out of pores and pores are at the surface of the skin. Just below the pores are sebaceous oil glands and these glands wrap around hair follicles. Enlarged pores are larger than normal pores.
Causes:
- Aging is one of the main causes of enlarged pores. With age the skin looses its elasticity and the collagen, which causes it to be supple. Thus, the skin becomes loose and can open out around the hair follicles.
- Another reason is that the sebaceous glands around the follicles produce more oil than normal. The oil is known as sebum and it can cause pores to enlarge.
Treatment:
- Laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion are the cosmetic ways of treating enlarged pores. Laser skin resurfacing rejuvenates the skin and helps it produce more collagen.
- Another way to treat large pores is to wash your face with splashes of cold water. Cold water will make the pores smaller, and this will prevent the pores from getting clogged.
- You can shrink pores by cleaning your face with a good cleanser or with alcohol dabbed on a piece of cotton.
- Some believe that applying make up during the day and then cleaning it off at night is another way to shrink he pores. However, we suggest you speak with a skin care therapist before doing so.
Whiteheads: When blackheads come in contact with bacteria, the blackheads become inflamed whiteheads.
Treatment: While you must visit your skin care therapist if this happens, you also need to pay attention to your diet and exercise regimen to treat the problem.
- Make sure that you drink eight to ten glasses of water everyday to flush out the toxins from your body.
- Eat a lot of vegetables and fruits that are rich in fiber. Some health experts believe that toxins in the body are the rot cause of blemishes and whiteheads, and a diet rich in fiber can help control the oil production in the oil glands around the follicles. Also, the diet should have low fat content.
- Exercise regularly as you will sweat while working out and that will not only balance the oil production and flush out the toxins, but will also lower your stress levels.
- Take certain vitamins like vitamin C, E, and A, and selenium to make your skin healthy.
- Cleanse your skin regularly and make sure that you use good products, which are gentle on the skin.
