Heat rash usually develops on areas of the body that are exposed to sunlight. The rash may appear as red eruptions on the face, neck, chest and back. In some cases, it may also turn into pus-filled pimples and boils. The affected areas of skin tend to become tender, itchy and swollen. The best way to prevent worsening of a heat rash is to keep the skin dry and cool. It is beneficial to splash cold water on the face and then pat dry with a clean, soft towel. You can also keep some soft tissues handy so that you can wipe away sweat from the face. Another way to relieve discomfort arising due to heat rash is to rub the affected areas with an ice pack. This may be done for about 5 minutes daily to reduce swelling and tenderness. Children may try to scratch the skin to relieve the irritation and it is important to prevent this from happening. Scratching may cause the rash to become infected. Foods that are rich in oily and spice may trigger increased sebum production and this could aggravate the heat rash. Intake of such foods should therefore be limited. Besides these general tips, there are also some simple home remedies which help to treat heat rash.
- Sandalwood powder is highly effective in cleansing the skin and due to its antiseptic properties it helps to prevent infection and irritation. You can add rose water to sandalwood powder and apply to the affected skin.
- You can also gently rub some fresh watermelon over the affected areas. This will help to soothe itching and also relieve the redness.
- Aloe vera is helpful in alleviating skin problems. Apply the gel of aloe vera leaves to the skin twice or thrice daily. It is advisable to cleanse the skin before applying the gel.
