Is you facial burn mild? If you have blistered or worse, broken the skin with your burn, you will need to seek medical attention for this. However, if you have a burn that is simply red, slightly raised and painful, in the first instance you need to apply a cold wet compress on it to relieve the pain. If you have a gel pack that you keep in your freezer, wrap it in a clean cloth and use that against the affected area. The longer you do this, the better it will be for the skin as it literally ‘takes out the heat’ of the burnt skin. Once the pain has settled, the best way to sooth the affected area is with Aloe gel found inside the fleshy leaf of the Aloe Vera plant. This herb is easy to keep in the garden and is also really soothing for sunburn and insect bites. You can also buy Aloe gel in most supermarkets and health food stores. If you have some pure lavender oil on hand, you can add a couple of drops of neat oil to the Aloe gel or mix into some pure sorbolene to further sooth the skin. First degree burns rarely scar but it is best to keep your skin out of direct sunlight until the area is fully healed and any discoloration is gone as this can aggravate scarring.
