Abdominal pain or discomfort is something everyone experiences in their life. It is usually ignored and does tend to go away on its own. However, at times, abdominal pain can also be the body’s way of indicating some problem with your system. More often than not, irregular bouts of abdominal pain or discomfort are just an indication of indigestion or some other minor problem with the digestive system. However, it can also be that the stomach pain is a symptom of far more serious afflictions like appendicitis, kidney stones, liver diseases, spleen diseases or even a gall bladder problem. Hence, when you experience abdominal pain, especially if it occurs fairly regularly, it is vital to determine the cause. The location of the pain can tell you a great deal about its nature and cause. If the pain is located at the lower abdomen towards its right side, it is usually an indicator of appendicitis, pain on the rim of the lower abdomen could signify kidney stones, and so on. It is best to go in for a thorough medical checkup so as to determine the exact cause of the discomfort. In almost all cases though, one may find out that the pain was just a result of improper digestion of food. If that is the case, there are a number of home remedies that you could try out to alleviate the pain.
Lime juice and honey is a recommended remedy. Add lime juice to a glass of hot water. Mix it well and then add a teaspoon of honey. Drink this mixture at least twice each day and you will soon see the pain disappear. Another excellent remedy is ginger. Make ginger tea by boiling a few pieces in water for a long time. Strain the mixture and drink it frequently. Alternately you could just chew a piece of ginger. Ginger does wonders for the digestive system and can nullify the pain caused by indigestion. Another effective cure is turmeric. Add half a teaspoon of turmeric powder to a glass of warm milk and drink it each night before going to bed to cure intermittent abdominal pain. Boiling 1 teaspoon of coriander leaves in water and drinking the mixture is also a highly recommended remedy for abdominal pain. Pay attention to your daily diet. Absolutely avoid fried foods and spicy foods. Confectionaries, caffeine, and alcohol too should be had in very small quantities. Drink a lot of water throughout the day, but avoid drinking water within half an hour of each meal as this could sometimes aggravate the indigestion.
