Home Remedies for Asthma and Acid Reflux
If you have asthma, then here are some ways to prevent asthma.
- Airborne pollen can trigger of an asthma attack. So, when you are indoors, use your air conditioner and keep your windows closed during the season when plants around your house pollinate.
- Use dust-proof covers on your furniture and furnishings. Clean the clutter and use décor items and furniture that are easy to clean and won’t trap dust and mites all the time. For instance, if you have a furry rug, replace it with a simple cotton, woven rug. Wash your blinds and curtains regularly.
- If you live in an area with high humidity, you might want to use a dehumidifier.
- The air inside your home and office should be clean. Get the air conditioner checked and cleaned. Change the filters of the furnace. A small-particle filter might help too.
- If you have a pet, then try to decrease the pet dander. Also, in case you are allergic to dander, then keep away from feathers and fur. If you have pets, then make sure that they are bathed regularly.
- Clean your house and surrounding areas at least once a week. Wear a mask while you clean, as the dust might trigger off an asthma attack.
- If you are going out in cold weather conditions, then cover your face as dry and cold air can make asthma worse.
- Work on your overall fitness and health.
Health tips for asthma
As mentioned above, staying healthy is important to combat asthma. Here are some tips.
- Exercise regularly for about 30 minutes every day. If you like, you can exercise more. Go for walks or for a swim. If you wish, you may take up a sport or take part in an exercise program in a gym. Exercise can strengthen your lungs and heart, and this can prevent asthma. If you are not used to exercising, then start with an activity and do it for a short while everyday. Slowly, increase the time you spend exercising.
- Try to maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight can make your asthma worse.
- If you have acid reflux and heartburn, then try to control your diet as far as possible. Acid can cause damage to the lung airways and this can make the symptoms of asthma worse.
