While not everyone that develops boils get them because of poor hygiene, many people do. This is especially common in young children that are starting to care for themselves in the shower or tub and for the elderly that cannot bath or shower regularly. So, just how do you prevent these painful boils? Here is a closer look.
Wash well
The number one way you can prevent boils from forming on your skin is to make sure you are washing well each and every day and that you are using a good antibacterial soap. This also means that you should make sure you are bathing or taking a shower in clean, warm watter and using clean washcloths and towels. This can help prevent boils from forming and will save you a lot of pain.
Stay dry
Boils may also form when you allow your skin to stay wet for a long time. This is true for those that may sit around in a wet bathing suit for long periods of time or those that wear sweaty clothes. Doing so can cause bacteria to become trapped between your skin and clothing and may introduce germs into your hair follicles on your skin.
Wear loose clothing
Allowing your skin to breathe will also help prevent boils. If you constantly wear tight or ill-fitting clothing, then you are prone to developing skin boils. Allow your skin to get some air by loosening up the clothes and letting the skin breathe.
Treat cuts and scrapes
Another way you can help prevent boils is to make sure you treat your skin each time you get a cut or scrape. Keep it medicated and covered until it heals. Anytime you have a break in your skin, it has to potential of introducing germs into the skin.
