Histamine is a chemical released by the body in reaction with allergens, this chemical release can cause several effects like the runny nose, itching, sneezing, nasal congestion etc. Histamines give out a number of reactions thereby making it difficult for a person with allergies. Histamine release can be due to any allergies like food allergy, hay fever, drug allergy, etc. Histamine is generally one of the allergic reaction symptoms.
In order to gain control over histamine release, antihistamine is used. Anti histamines block histamine receptors thereby preventing allergic reaction symptoms for a person. Anti histamines are most useful for people suffering from allergic reactions from food, if the symptoms are strong antihistamines will help gain control over the reaction and bring back the person to normalcy faster.
Anti histamines though might cause some side effects, these might cause sleepiness or drowsiness, depending on the antihistamine that has been used.
