Home Remedies for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Home remedies for Obsessive-compulsive disorder are almost never effective. However, self-care at home and lifestyle changes can help you manage your life in a better manner. Here are some of the things you can do:
- Always consume your medications as directed by your health care professional. Missing doses or consuming different dosages than recommended can prevent treatment. Since medication and therapy usually go hand in hand, it is important to keep up with both. Without the medication, therapy may not be too helpful. On the other hand, without therapy, the medication may not be too helpful.
- Always keep a lookout for the warning signs of your condition. More often than not, people with OCD can keep the condition in check by simply tracking their symptoms. If your symptoms return, immediately contact your doctor or therapist so that you can seek treatment immediately. Also resist the temptation of skipping your medications simply because the symptoms are in remission.
- Avoid substance abuse. It may be tempting to smoke or consume alcohol, but try and avoid both as this could only complicate your condition further. If you have had substance abuse problem in the past, maintain your resolve and avoid these substances at all costs. It is important to get appropriate treatment if you have a substance abuse problem.
- If you have not yet consulted a doctor, make sure you get a consultation. It is not a good idea to self medicate as that could complicate your condition further. Also do not consume any over the counter medications or supplements as these too could cause more harm than good. Always consume medications on the recommendation of your therapist.
