Prevention from Rickets
You can prevent rickets by:
- Making sure your child gets enough vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorus in his diet
- Vitamin and mineral supplements in case you or your child suffers from any gastrointestinal disorder preventing the proper absorption of vitamin D in the body
- Monitoring your calcium and phosphorus levels if you suffer from kidney damage or related disorders
- Opting for genetic counseling if you have a history of rickets in your family
- Taking vitamin D supplements if you are pregnant or when breastfeeding
- Taking calcium supplements to encourage proper bone growth and development
- Exposing your child to appropriate amounts of sunlight
- Changing your diet to include foods rich in vitamin D, calcium, and phosphorus
