Types of Personality Disorders



A personality disorder can manifest itself in a number of ways. Psychiatrists and experts tend to identify personality disorders into ten different types and these can be separated into three main sub-categories. These include:

1. Suspicious
 
  • Paranoid
  • Schizoid
  • Schizotypal
  • Antisocial
2. Emotional and Impulsive
  3. Anxious
 
  • Avoidant
  • Dependent
  • Obsessive-Compulsive

There may be are very broad categorizations and one person may meet the criteria for different disorders at a time. These sub-categories are merely used as a basic guideline for diagnostic purposes.
