In order to lighten dark skin and make yourself a shade fairer, there are some simple home remedies you can follow. Have a milk bath at least once a week. Pour a gallon of milk in a regular bath and sit in this for about 20 minutes. This will go a long way towards adding the all-important glow to your skin. You can follow a routine of skin exfoliation at least twice a week regularly for cleaner and more hygienic skin. Mix sugar crystals and olive oil to make a cream-like paste and rub into your skin in gentle circular motions till all the sugar is melted. This will reveal fresh skin beneath. If your skin is oily, make an exfoliating cream with equal parts of dried and powdered orange peels, yogurt and a couple of crushed walnuts. Rub this in gentle circular motions all over your skin for a good 10 minutes.

To lighten the color of your skin, you can also chop an orange into two and rub over the affected areas in gentle circular motions for at least 15 minutes. Using tomatoes will also achieve the same result. You can also apply raw potato juice or cucumber juice on your body to lighten your skin color. To remove tan, make a mix of a teaspoon each of milk, honey and lime juice, rub this into skin and wash after about 30 minutes.
