How to treat yellow toenails



Yellow discoloration of the toes indicates the presence of Toe nail Fungus. Thickening of the nail with pain or difficulty in wearing shoes are also seen. Dermatophytes are a group of fungus which causes toe nail fungus, also referred to as onychomycosis. It is a contagious skin condition resulting in discoloration and disfiguration of the nails. Tea tree oil possesses fungistatic properties. Equal proportion of cider vinegar and water acts as a good dip or bath for the feet. Olive leaf extract is a good remedy. Listerine mouthwash proves beneficial, when the toes are immersed in a tub. Dabbing cotton ball in lavender oil and tea tree oil on the affected toes helps. Trimming the nails and applying eucalyptus oil is an effective remedy. Rubbing the toes with undiluted vinegar kills the fungus. Oregano oil proves beneficial in inhibiting the microbes. Brushing the nails with white vinegar is helpful. Equal proportion of pine sol and soy sauce is topically applied on the affected toes. Refined carbohydrates and sweets are avoided. Oregano oil mixed with olive oil is an antiseptic possessing anti fungal properties. Cleaning the feet properly and topical application of creams containing alpha hydroxy acids exfoliates the dead and scaly skin.
