The bladder stores the urine until it is eliminated from the body. Stones in the bladder develop when small formations of minerals accumulate to form larger stones. This generally takes place when the urine stagnates in the bladder, causing a concentration of the minerals and salt present in the urine. The residue that is left behind by this concentration results in bladder stones. Conditions such as urinary tract infections that occur repeatedly or an enlarged prostate can lead to the formation of bladder stones. There may not be any symptoms exhibited by this condition and the stones are usually detected during other tests. If symptoms occur, then they can include pain in the lower abdomen, difficulty and discomfort in passage of urine and presence of blood in the urine. Bladder stones that are quite small usually get eliminated on their own, while larger ones may need to be removed surgically. If bladder stones are not treated properly, other infections and complications could occur.
Even large bladder stones may sometimes cause no symptoms. If a stone blocks the passage of urine or causes irritation in the bladder then certain symptoms can occur. Along with abdominal pain and discomfort during urination, there may also be an increased frequency of urination, interrupted flow of urine, incontinence and a dark discoloration of the urine. Men may also experience pain in the penis. Bladder stones differ in size and can either be small or so big that they fill up the bladder. They can also vary in consistency and appearance. Sometimes, small stones that form in the kidneys can move downwards and enter the bladder. If they remain in the bladder, they form bladder stones.
Once bladder stones have been detected, they need to be removed as soon as possible as otherwise they can grow in size. Smaller stones can be eliminated by consuming large amounts of water. But if they cannot be flushed out, then they need to be removed through medical procedures. Home remedies for bladder stones involve prevention of the conditions that cause the stone formation. Drinking cranberry juice is effective in treating infections in the bladder, as it restricts the bacteria from sticking to the walls of the bladder. The juice of radish leaves may be consumed daily for a couple of weeks for relief from bladder problems. For pain and discomfort arising from bladder conditions, you can soak in tub of warm water. Herbal teas consisting of herbs such as hydrangea, gravel root or stone root are believed to be helpful in treating bladder stones.
