Toothache natural treatment

A toothache is cause when the enamel (the hard white part of the tooth) wears away and the nerve underneath is exposed. The enamel can be worn away due to a combination of mouth bacteria and food remnants in the mouth. The resulting acid eats away at the hard surface and the exposed nerve and blood cells can become extremely sensitive to any kind of stimulation resulting in shooting pains. Over time however these exposed cells die out and the entire tooth may have to be extracted.

To handle the toothache for short periods of time you can try using the oil of cloves. Dip a cotton swab or q-tip in the oil and then clamp the saturated cotton firmly between the teeth that hurt. Make sure you use clove oil that is meant for cooking purposes and is not otherwise contaminated. In the absence of clove oil you can also bite down on whole cloves that are found in the spice section of most groceries. This is one of the most widely used home-remedies to deaden the pain that results from tooth decay.

Over the long run however you need to make permanent changes to your dental hygiene routine. Make sure you brush every time you have had a large meal, which includes breads and other food that can remain in the gaps between your teeth. You can use toothpaste that contains clove oil if it is easily available. Failing that make sure you brush your teeth with any reliable brand at least twice day, once on waking and once before going to bed. Invest in a good brand of dental floss and make sure you floss out any food remains from between your teeth at the end of the day.

In order to make sure you are not in danger of losing your tooth get the opinion of a trained dental hygienist. They maybe able to give you options that will not involve removal of the tooth.
