Home remedies are in fact quite effective against head lice and are much safer than medicated shampoos and applications available at pharmacies and stores. Most cosmetic products and medications that are readily available in stores contain chemicals and other substances, making them harsh and often damaging to the hair and scalp. While they may be quite effective against lice they also cause damage to hair follicles and the scalp. Natural products and home remedies are therefore a much better option as they are quite effective, and at the same time contain no harmful substances that could be damaging to the hair.
It is not uncommon for people to suffer from an infestation during some seasons, while the lice may die out during other seasons. Lice can be quite a serious problem if left untreated, as apart from the irritation they cause they also weaken the hair roots, leading to an eventual hair loss. One of the most effective methods involves the use of onion. Applying juice extracted from an oinion to the scalp has been found to be very effective. Massage it slowly into the hair roots and allow it to remain for around three or four hours. Wash your hair thoroughly after this to get rid of all the dead lice. Repeat the procedure for three days to get rid of the nits or lice eggs as well.
