I'm not sure if you are trying to retain fluid or get rid of excess fluid retained in your body. Most people enquire about trying to get rid of water retained in the body.
If you are trying to retain fluid losses through excessive sweating and urination then drink plenty of water and fluids to add fluids to your body. Caffeine present in aerated drinks and energy drinks is a diuretic and increases urinary water losses. Hence, cut down or restrict intake of aerated fizzy drinks and energy drinks which are loaded with caffeine. The amount of salt you eat in a day affects fluid retention in your body. This also includes what is already present in food that we eat besides the salt that we add to food while and after cooking. All foods contain large amounts of water especially carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables. Eat a lot of watermelon since it contains primarily water.
I would suggest you to be aware of your fluid retention pattern by weighing yourself daily first thing in the morning and at bedtime. Do this daily for 10 days and note down your observations. Take this with you when you go to consult your doctor and let the doctor guide you further.
