I've read recent articles that rubbing the skin of a banana over psoriasis spots will aid in healing? Any truth to this?

Psoriasis refers to a skin ailment in which the reproduction cycle of skin cells gets speeded up to 3 to 4 days instead of the usual 28 to 30 days. It results in an accumulation of dead skin cells on the lower back, elbows, knees and knuckles. Unfortunately there has been no success in finding the exact cause of this ailment, though it does seem to be hereditary and thus genetic. Since there is no known cause of psoriasis, there are no medications available for it and usually application of Aloe Vera gel, Olive oil and Apple Cider Vinegar on the affected areas is recommended.

Recently an ancient South African remedy using banana peel proved to be a successful experiment in curing psoriasis. A traditional Zulu remedy for psoriasis, which causes the appearance of ugly lesions and rough scales on the skin, this involves rubbing of banana peel over the affected areas. An attempt to isolate the main active ingredient in the banana peel , i.e. fatty acids, showed that it was the reason for this miraculous cure. Today there are some creams available in the market, which have incorporated this ingredient. Patients who have tried direct application of banana peel on the affected areas or have used the creams with the fatty acids have shown much improvement of symptoms.

Psoriasis is not the kind of disease that can be healed by something as simple as rubbing a banana over the affected area. This is a very complicated disease that has yet to find a cure in terms of modern medicine. The only treatments available are of the Ayurvedic and Homeopathic variety. Both these ancient sciences offer complete and irreversible cures for the problem. However, the cures are complicated and may take a very long time to take effect, sometimes going into years, and they will also be accompanied with very strict diet and lifestyle regulations.

There are some measures you can follow to get relief from the itching at home, but please do note that this will be momentary and there is no permanent solution in any of these measures. Applying cashew nut oil to the affected areas will help to soothe them tremendously. You can also apply a paste made of cabbage leaves with a few drops of avocado oil added to it. This is also known to help with psoriasis. Consuming the juice of one whole bitter gourd in the morning will also help you this condition, and it will also take care of your general health otherwise. You should also avoid eating processed foods when suffering from psoriasis.
