Psoriasis health advice

The normal cycle of reproduction of skin cells is around 28 to 30 days, but in people suffering from Psoriasis, this cycle gets speeded up to just 3-4 days, leading to a build-up of dead skin cells on the surface levels which results in dry irritating scaly patches known as plaques, on the scalp, lower back, elbows, knees and knuckles. While there is no known cause for Psoriasis, consumption of alcohol, obesity, stress and anxiety, reaction to certain medications and exposure to sunburn aggravate the problem. There are few theories which point to genetics as the primary cause for Psoriasis. Fortunately despite its rather scary appearance Psoriasis is not at all contagious.

While it is not possible to completely prevent Psoriasis since its cause has not been defined, one can try some simple home remedies to combat it. Like with many skin ailments, application of Aloe Vera gel and Olive oil provides relief. You could also mix 2 tsp Olive oil with 1 glass of milk to your bath water to soften your skin and prevent further outbreaks. Apple Cider Vinegar acts as an excellent disinfectant and can be applied using a cold compress prepared by soaking a soft cloth in 1 cup apple cider vinegar in 1 gallon cold water. Another recommended remedy is keeping the affected area wrapped in plastic, after applying moisturiser to seal in the moisture.
