Can I take gas x or beano when pregnant?

Excessive gas cures

Excessive gas and bloating are very common during pregnancy. The small intestine is sometimes unable to completely digest certain carbohydrates due to a shortage of certain essential enzymes. The bacteria in the large intestine cause these undigested carbohydrates to break down and this produces gas. The safest medications would be those that contain natural enzymes. However, they have not yet been clinically proven to be safe for pregnant or lactating women. It is therefore preferable that you use them only as a last resort

I would suggest that you first try natural methods to combat gas. One of the best natural methods to treat bloating is fennel. Boil a couple of fennel seeds in a cup of water and drink it while it is still warm. Do this after every meal to completely avoid the discomfort of excessive gas. Since food like beans, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower are relatively difficult to digest and are therefore inherently gas-producing, it would be best if you consumed smaller portions of them. Make sure that you have an adequate amount of fiber in your daily diet and avoid meals that are spicy or contain a lot of oil. Instead of eating fewer and larger meals, try to have many smaller sized serving.

Flatulence advice and cures

As far as it is possible to tell, the products you mention are unlikely to be harmful even for a pregnant woman; they only work on the digestive system to reduce gas. However it is always best to check with the doctor who is treating you, as some substances can get into the bloodstream and thus affect the unborn baby. Therefore, at your next check up, be sure to ask your doctor whether you can continue taking these products.

In general too, it is better to take a completely natural approach - such as modifying your diet - to any health problem, rather than taking medication or supplements. Keep a close watch on your diet and try to identify the foods that cause or increase flatulence. Avoid or reduce your intake of these foods. Common offenders include beans, potatoes, corn, milk products, and wheat products.

The spices asafetida and turmeric are known to decrease gas and flatulence, so you should add them to your cooking when possible. You should also eat yogurt with or after your meal, as the bacteria present in yogurt are beneficial for the intestines in many ways, including decreasing flatulence. These methods are usually quite successful, and are much safer too.
