How does one know what kind of skin he /she has?

A person's skin happens to be one of the most defining features of their aesthetic appearance and great looking skin can greatly alter the visual impression. However, in order to achieve better looking skin, one needs to be able to first identify the type of skin they have, as all treatment options are unlikely to work regardless of the type of skin. You are said to have normal skin if the skin is balanced and neither oily nor dry. Normal skin has the best look and will appear translucent, smooth and soft with a certain glow. Oily skin indicates over activity of the sebaceous glands that provide the skin with a greasy shine. The texture of the skin is likely to appear very coarse with a number of open pores, blackheads and acne. Dry skin happens to be the other end of the spectrum where the sebaceous glands and under active causing the skin to lack oil content and moisture. This skin is very vulnerable to changes in temperature and humidity and can flake very easily along with the prospect of development of wrinkles and lines. Sensitive skin is skin that reacts very easily t external factors - very commonly causing significant itching, chafing and burning sensations. Some people may even have combination skin which is a mixture of some parts of the skin being excessively oily while others appear dry.

There are a number of easily prepared home remedies that will help treat almost any skin type and provide it with a healthy, lively glow. When dealing with normal skin, you could try rubbing the inner part of the skin of a papaya on the face and let it dry before washing it off with some cold water. You could also try grinding a small carrot and squeezing the pulp in order to remove the juice before applying the juice over your face. Wash it off with some cool water and wipe dry. For oily skin, you could try soaking three teaspoons of fenugreek seeds over night and grinding it into a paste that should be applied to the face. Wash the paste off with cool water once it has dried. Alternatively, you could also grind half a cucumber and extract its juice before applying the juice over the affected areas of the skin. Let it dry and wash your face with cool water. Mashing half a papaya and adding a teaspoon of honey to create a paste that should be applied on your face is known to be extremely helpful in treating dry skin.

It is not clear exactly what you mean by this question — all you need to do is look at your skin and touch it to know whether it is normal, dry, or oily. I assume that this is what you mean by "kind of skin", but as for finding this out, there is no complex procedure needed, so your question is quite confusing.

It is quite easy to recognize normal skin, just follow your instinct. Even if your skin is slightly dry, this will be quite obvious; severe dryness is more obvious as it will result in white, flaky patches, and possibly even itching. If you have dry skin, you simply need to use a moisturizer, preferably a thick cream rather than a lotion. You should moisturize your skin soon after bathing, because your skin has already absorbed a good deal of moisture at this time, and applying the cream will help it retain this moisture. In addition, make sure that you drink enough water, as one common reason for dry skin is dehydration.

Oily skin is a little more tricky to handle, but it is still not a major problem. Your skin may be producing too much oil in response to certain cosmetics that you are using, so you should try cutting down a bit. Washing more regularly may also help, but do not overdo it; drying out your skin completely will only encourage it to produce more oil.
