Smelly feet are a problem with people who tend to sweat too much from the hands or feet. It is not the sweat itself that smells bad, but the bacteria that grow in such moist conditions. The characteristic bad smell from feet and underarms is caused by bacteria. If washing your feet regularly is not helping with the smell, here are some simple remedies that might help solve the problem.
- Wash your feet with an antibacterial soap or a solution such as dettol in diluted form.
- Wear only cotton socks and change them frequently.
- Apply anti-perspirant to your feet
- A tea bath may be an effective remedy.. You can make this up by boiling a couple of tea bags in a pint of water for 15 minutes. Leave your feet in the tea bath for around half an hour every day.
- Another effective bath is made up by mixing one part vinegar with two parts water
- Mix two tablespoons of Epsom salts in one quart of water and soak your feet as above
- Once you've worn a particular pair of shoes, give them a day or so out in the sun to dry out.
- Dust your feet off with baking soda or talcum powder with anti bacterial additives.
Having gone to all this trouble, it won't help matters if you put your clean feet back in the same old smelly footwear. While you are taking all these measures also make sure to wash sneakers in Dettol or hot water and leave footwear that you cannot wash, out in the sun to disinfect them
