Why do I get sweats on my feet?

Sweaty feet are a fairly common problem that affects people who sweat excessively otherwise as well. Sometimes, some people tend to sweat more on the feet than on any other part of the body. This generally leads to uncomfortable situations arising due to related problems such as bad foot odor and smelly shoes and socks. The medical name given to excessively sweaty feet is plantar hyperhidrosis. While this is not really a disease of any kind, it is certainly an uncomfortable situation to be in. It is important to remember that the feet have hundreds of thousands of more sweat glands than any other single body part. All these sweat glands are collected in a very small surface area as well, so this makes them collectively more active. The problem is more pronounced when you keep your feet enclosed in shoes or socks. The dark, slightly damp environment caused by socks or shoes leads the bacteria to multiply faster and also become more active. This leads to greater foot odor than if you were to keep your feet bare.

Sometimes, it is also possible that you are suffering from a microscopic fungal infection without knowing it. In order to determine or eliminate this, you would need to get a dermatological examination of your feet. This will give you definite information. Meanwhile, the best thing you can do to fight this problem is to start using a strong anti-bacterial soap to wash your feet. You must also make it a point to wash your feet at least thrice a day with this soap for it to continuously keep working. It is also essential to avoid wearing socks made of synthetic materials, as these will tend to trap sweat inside and make the smell more pronounced. Try not to wear any pair of shoes for more than a few hours at a time.
