Home Remedies to Avoid Skin from Getting Dark: I used to have fair skin but now I had little wheatish skin. My elbows are darker than normal?

Skin color is a result of melanin production in the body. There can be several reasons for the kind of skin color a person has - heredity, hyperpigmentation, skin disorder, and exposure to sun's rays. While it is not clear why your skin have started to grow wheatish, it is better to keep in mind that a healthy skin is far more important than a fair skin. Skin color is something that cannot be changed drastically; however, some of the home remedies described below may help lighten the skin tone and give a slightly fairer complexion.

Mix grinded almonds with rose water to make a fine paste and apply this paste regularly on your body. You can also apply a paste of turmeric powder and sandalwood to lighten your skin tone. To help reduce tan of your skin, make a mixture of 1 teaspoon of milk powder, 1 teaspoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice, and ½ teaspoon of almond oil. Apply this paste on your body and wash off after 10-15 minutes. Another useful paste can be made by mixing oatmeal with curd and tomato and can be applied on your body similarly. A mixture of dried orange peels mixed with curd is also known to tone down the skin color. Aloe vera gel can also be applied on the body to lighten tan.

You can also make a protein rich face pack by grinding soaked grams and almonds. Apply this paste on your body and leave it for half an hour before washing off with water. This paste will simultaneously nourish and bleach the skin.

Vegetables can also help in enhancing skin tone. Rubbing a freshly cut tomato on your skin regularly may help change your skin complexion. Similarly, potato slices soaked in cold water can also be rubbed on the skin.

There are also a few precautionary steps to be taken to prevent your skin from getting darker. Always apply a good sunscreen lotion on your skin when you are going out in the sun. Sunscreen lotion not only protects your skin your skin from tanning but also from ultra violet rays. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated and healthy. Water washes away toxins from the body and gives a natural glow to your skin. Do avoid having too much of oily or spicy foods as they might prove unhealthy for your skin. Eat healthy - include fibrous vegetables, cereals, pulses, and fruits to your diet.
