I experience breathing problem when laying down or going to sleep at night. Please help.

Breathlessness, or shortness of breath, is also sometimes more commonly known as palpitations. Palpitations are actually a symptom rather than a problem unto themselves. Before you begin trying to diagnose and treat yourself, you are strongly advised to consult a doctor for an accurate medical diagnosis. It could be that you are suffering from something else altogether, which is being manifested in palpitations. It is always better to know. Since you have not mentioned your age or gender, and it is not possible to obtain any kind of family history, you are better off visiting a doctor who can take all of these factors into account and then accurately prescribe whatever it is you may need. Keep in mind that shortness of breath at night time or even palpitations at night can also be indicative of heart disease. In fact, people are known to simply succumb to heart attacks all of a sudden if they have been having symptoms like this one regularly, or even sporadically, for a while. It is best you do not ignore the advice to consult with a doctor who can physically check you out properly. This is a probably safe and effective first step to take.

On a more generic level, you can take some dietary measures to ensure that you do not suffer from unnecessarily adding to this problem. Sometimes, in basically simplified and uncomplicated cases, this could be a case of extreme indigestion. So you can start with controlling your diet and keeping it low in sodium and calories to begin with. This will help to keep your blood pressure under control too. Also, if you eat simple food which is easy to digest and does not give any trouble with the digestive process per se, you will find that you feel better on the whole. It is also wise to add some form of exercise to your daily routine. This should include a proper regimen of anaerobic exercise in the morning. Keep in mind that you should not start with exercise that is too vigorous, otherwise you may end up damaging yourself and your health. Start slow and then raise the tempo should be your motto. This way, even if you do have some kind of problem, at least you will not be taking any risks. Yoga is excellent exercise which will help you to control your breathing and be very good for your mind and body.
