You mentioned that you have some sort of breathing problem and so it would be best if you go to a doctor to rule out throat ailments like vocal fold polyps that can impair voice modulation. You have also unfortunately not mentioned if this is something that you have always had or if it is a recent development. If this is a not a recent development, it is possible that you may have been born with some sort of throat condition which is the root cause of both your speech as well as your breathing problems. If it is a recent development, you may have a throat ailment. I really cannot stress enough how important it is that you visit your doctor no matter how long you have had this problem for.

If this is a problem that you have faced since you were a child, it is possible that you are a soft spoken person. There are several simple methods that you can employ to strengthen your vocal cords. Some of them are listed below:

1.
Sing:  Singing helps to strengthen your vocal cords and tone your voice. You can join a choir as they will be able to instruct you on how to sing loudly. If you are shy and do not wish to join a group, you can simply sing in the shower. Make sure that you do not murmur to yourself but sing out aloud.

2.    Yoga: There are several yoga breathing exercises that you can use to strengthen your diaphragm muscles. These deep breathing exercises will help you to modulate your voice correctly. There are also several exercises that help to strengthen the lungs and eliminate breathing problems. You can consult a yoga instructor and explain your specific needs so that the two of you can come up with a yoga schedule that is aimed specifically at dealing with your breathing and voice problems.

3.
Speech Therapy: You can enroll in theatre training as this will help you to project your voice. As long as you have a healthy voice, you can train it to be louder, fuller and more resonant. Theatre training involves the practice of “speaking from your gut”. This method is similar to the yoga breathing exercises as it employs deep breathing techniques.

In addition to these methods, there are several things that you should avoid. Do not eat citrus fruits before any breathing or vocal exercises. Citrus fruits are acidic in nature and can irritate your throat and will interfere with your exercises.
