This is a relatively common problem that can be effectively treated with a regular lip care routine. Your skin contains sebaceous glands that secrete a natural oil to keep your skin moisturized. Unfortunately, your lips do not have these glands and therefore they need to be moisturized regularly. Lips that are dry and cracked are vulnerable to infection. A lip infection can leave permanent discoloration. If you have very dry skin or if you are exposed to extreme heat or cold on a regular basis, you are likely to suffer from dry skin and cracks in the corners of your mouth.
You will need to use a scrub and a moisturizer on a daily basis at least for a week or until your lips are crack-free. Do not use a cosmetic scrub as most of them contain harsh chemicals used to perfume or color the product. Grind a few tablespoons of rice in a mixer for at least 5 minutes and make sure that this rice flour is extremely fine before you use it. Mix the flour with a teaspoon of honey and a teaspoon of almond oil. Use this homemade lip scrub to gently exfoliate your lips. Make sure that you use very gentle horizontal motions when scrubbing your lips as the skin on your lips is extremely thin and delicate.
If any of these ingredients is unavailable, you can make another moisturizing lip scrub using an avocado, a banana and a little sugar. Blend the avocado and the banana until you have a smooth paste. This paste can be kept refrigerated in an air tight container for two to three days. You can scoop out a dollop of this paste each time you need to use your scrub. Add a spoon or two of sugar to this fruit paste and scrub your lips with this coarse but non-abrasive lip paste. When scrubbing your lips concentrate on the edges that are dry and cracked. For your lip moisturizer you will need at least two of the following oils: avocado oil, coconut oil, olive oil, flaxseed oil and peanut oil. Mix equal amounts of the two oils of your choice in a small bottle. Apply this oil to your lips as often as you need to. Make sure that you use this lip moisturizer after you scrub your lips to keep them well moisturized. The lip scrub for dry and cracked lips helps to get rid of the excess dead skin on your lips while the moisturizer keeps the revealed delicate skin well moisturized and protected.
