You can apply either of these on your upperlip:
- lip balm or
- petroleum jelly or
- vitamin E oil or
- aloe vera gel.
- The idea is to you’re your lips moist with these greasy products.
- If you are going out, you can use lip balm which contains sunblock.
- Cracks at the corner of your mouth indicate Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) deficiency. So if the corners of your mouth are cracked then take Vitamin B2 supplements to help. Also, consume foods rich in vitamin B2 namely milk, organ meats such as liver, kidney and eggs. Some vegetables and fruits provide a small but constant supply.
- Don’t keep licking your cracked lips as it can cause lip-licker's dermatitis. By licking your lips often you are actually drying them further rather than keeping them moist.
- Avoid licking your lips constantly. By licking constantly, you scrape off oil from surrounding areas of your lips and end up with a red ring of dermatitis around the mouth.
- Severely cracked lips can become infected. Use over-the-counter antibiotic ointments to guard against this.
- The new tartar-control toothpastes are even worse at drying lips than the regular ones. So stop using toothpaste or use ones that you find without tartar control in it. Just use a toothbrush alone or brush with baking soda on it.
