Home remedies for dull facial skin

Dull skin is a common problem and is generally caused by incorrect skin care practices and poor lifestyle habits. Harsh cosmetic products as well as an unhealthy diet and inadequate exercise can make your skin look dull and papery. It is therefore important to use gentle products and follow a healthy diet and exercise schedule in order to have a soft, smooth and healthy complexion.

Harsh cosmetic products contain chemicals that can irritate and damage your skin. Make sure that you use cosmetic products meant for your specific skin type. You can experiment with a few products until you find one that you are most comfortable with. Alternatively, you could make your own homemade skin care products as these will not contain any additional chemicals.

Make sure that your daily skin care routine includes cleansing and moisturizing. Use a face wash at least twice a day to keep your skin free of excess oil and dirt. A moisturizer is very important as it replenishes oils that are lost during cleansing. Use a moisturizer after you wash your face to keep your skin soft and smooth. You can make your own moisturizer by mixing ½ teaspoon each of flax seed oil, olive oil and almond oil. Mix this blend of oils in a small bottle and add about 3 tablespoons of distilled warm water to it. Shake the contents well and then use it as needed. These oils are rich in fatty acids and nutrients that promote healthy glowing skin.

Exfoliation is a very effective home remedy for dull skin. Do not use cosmetic facial scrubs as these will invariably irritate your skin. Mix a little rice flour, cucumber juice and orange juice and scrub your face with this paste. Cucumber juice is very soothing while orange juice helps to slough off dead skin cells and dirt on the surface of your skin. You can also mix cucumber juice and orange juice with fuller's earth and use it as a face pack to cleanse and revitalize your skin. You can add lemon juice to this face pack to lighten your skin by reducing your skin tan.

In addition to your skin care routine, it is important that you follow a healthy diet. You will need to make sure that your daily diet includes less fried foods - especially junk food and fast food. Have at least two servings of raw fruits and vegetables daily as they are high in vitamins, minerals and fiber.

You should also exercise daily for at least 30 minutes. Exercise is important as it boosts the body's metabolic rate and increases circulation. This helps to promote healthy and nourished skin.
