Remedies for Phlegm

For phlegm it says 1/2 ginger, 1/2 cinnamon,1/2 carnation two questions first is what is carnation and the second is what do you mix all this with and how much?

Carnations are a type of flowers and its petals and seeds are occasionally used in herbal preparations. However since you mentioned that this remedy is specifically for phlegm, carnation here would refer to carnation milk – which is nothing but condensed milk. You would therefore have to mix ½ a spoon of finely chopped, crushed or powdered ginger, ½ a spoon of cinnamon powder and ½ a spoon of carnation milk. This would form a thick paste that you would need to have in order to get rid of excess phlegm.

The build up of phlegm is almost always caused as a result of the body's fight against an invading pathogen. The body sends white blood cells to fight off a bacterial infection which is why phlegm would appear white or yellow in color at this time. Mucus may also thicken considerably and be tough to expel. Since this mucus contains the bacteria causing this infection, it is important to get rid of all thickened and hardened mucus. There are several home remedies that you can use to get rid of excess phlegm

Steam inhalation is a very effective method of loosening and thinning mucus. You will need to heat a large saucepan of water and once it boils, you can take it off the heat. Place the steaming saucepan in front of you and drape a towel over your head. This will ensure that the rising steam is trapped and will increase the amount of steam your inhale. Inhale deeply repeatedly so that the steam travels down your entire respiratory system. If at any point you feel the need to cough or sneeze, do not stifle the urge. You can clear your throat and then continue with the steam inhalation. You can add a handful of eucalyptus leaves or two to three drops of Eucalyptus oil to the water as this will help to thin the mucus even further. You can use this method along with other home remedies for increased effectiveness and quicker results.

Liquorice root extract is also very effective in treating phlegm accumulation. This is because it is a very effective expectorant and is often used in cough syrups. You can mix this extract with a spoon of honey. This is a soothing tonic that will also help to ease throat irritation. You can also add a few fresh pods of Garlic to your meals as garlic has strong antibiotic properties and will fight off the infection.
