Treatment of Fatty Liver

My mother has been diagnosed with an enlarge liver, can this be cured and how. I would like you to respond, I need more than one answer please. Many thanks Samantha

The liver is a vital organ responsible for some important functions in the body. It is responsible for producing bile which helps to digest fats in the food we eat. It also helps to metabolize carbohydrates, fats and cholesterol. A non functioning liver will cause jaundice and will lead to several health problems. When the liver is enlarged, it will become uncomfortable for the individual and palpation of the area would result in pain. If pain is detected you can do a scan to confirm an enlarged liver.

You can suffer from enlargement of the liver as a result of the excessive accumulation of fat in the liver. The spaces between the cells of the liver become filled with fat. This causes pressure on the healthy liver cells and can inhibit their functioning. Hepatitis, which causes jaundice, can be another cause for an enlarged liver. Finally, people who consume too much alcohol over a period of time can suffer from an enlarged liver. An enlarged liver is not restricted to these causes. It may be a side symptom of many other conditions or diseases.

It is very likely that if you have been diagnosed with an enlarged liver, this is due to fat accumulation. Other causes such as a disease or illness would be directly treated by the doctor who is attending to you. Fatty liver can be treated by changing your lifestyle. Firstly, alcohol consumption should be reduced or eliminated completely. Alcohol causes fat to accumulate and can damage the liver. Regular exercise should help you begin to lose weight. You should accompany this with a change of diet. Fatty foods and heavy foods containing carbohydrates, fat and sugars should be reduced to a low level. These foods require the liver to help metabolize them. When the liver is enlarged it is a good idea to avoid putting excess strain on the organ until it is recovered.  Some people also suggest exercise that can help you sweat. Sweating passes some toxins out of the body through the skin. This is a good way of cleansing the body as well as using up some energy and losing weight. One should try to exercise in such a way that the body burns some fat while you are working out. You must eat plenty of fruits and vegetables accompanied by extra water intake to allow your system to clean itself and pass some toxins out.
