What should I do for a shoe bite?

A shoe bite is a blister that appears on the foot, because of new or tight shoes. Not only do these shoe bites hurt when you stand or walk, they could also leave behind unsightly scars and affect the overall appearance of your feet.

The main cause of a shoe bite is wearing shoes that may be a bit smaller than your actual foot size. Shoes that are too snug brush against your skin repeatedly and cause an inflammation in the area. Since the proportions of standard shoes may not necessarily match your foot, you may even get a shoe bite after wearing the size that is right for you.

The first step in healing a shoe bite blister is avoiding the shoe that triggered off the problem. You can start wearing that shoe again, once the blister heals completely. You could also apply an antiseptic powder, lotion or cream on to the bite to speed up the healing process. However, avoid covering the blister with a bandage, because it will only worsen the inflammation.

In addition to the treatment options mentioned above, you could also try a few simple home remedies to reduce the pain and risks of scarring. These include:

  • Aloe Vera: Dab some fresh Aloe Vera gel on to the affected part of the foot, to soothe the skin and reduce the inflammation.
  • Rice Flour: Mix a tablespoon of rice flour in some plain water to make a paste. Apply this paste on to the shoe bite and leave it on to dry before rinsing the foot off with warm water.
  • Turmeric: This yellow-colored spice is commonly found in most stores that stock Indian food. Dab on some turmeric powder on the bite to treat it faster and prevent the formation of scars.

When it comes to, prevention is much better than cure. Given below are a few simple steps that can help prevent the formation of shoe bites:

  • Apply some coconut oil or castor oil on the inside of the shoe before wearing it. Doing it for the first three or four days softens the shoe and keeps it from blistering your foot.
  • Rub a small amount of petroleum jelly on the part of the shoe that is most likely to cause inflammation. Let it stay on your shoe overnight before wiping it off.
  • Place a few slices of raw potato inside your shoe and leave them there overnight. Just remove the potato slices before wearing the shoe.
  • Apply a bandage on the irritable areas of the shoe to keep it from interacting directly with your skin.
While the home remedies and preventative steps mentioned above are quite safe if used correctly, it is best to check with a doctor before trying any of them.

Hi, Not sure what you mean by shoe bite, but if shoes are new, put damp newspaper into them at night (really pack it in)leave by fire to dry over night, helps to stretch them so  no shoe bite, or buy a bigger size
