Heartburn is caused when the acid contents from the stomach tries to oppose the gravity and reaches the esophagus. Our esophagus is not covered with a protective lining against these digestive juices and acids, which ultimately leads to a burning sensation. The following points would help to avoid heartburn -
- Overindulgence in any case should be avoided. Eat wisely leaving some space in your stomach irrelevant to hunger or food likes.
- Relax and learn to chew each morsel at least 32 times before gulping it down. This will give your brain time to realize its satiety level.
- Eat meals with a gap of at least 2-3 hrs before sleeping hours. Make yourself busy in an activity to pass that amount of time.
- Try to avoid eating oily or fried foods, excessively spicy foods with all spices and condiments, red pepper, red meat, pickles, sour foods, strong tea and coffee, sweet preparations like heavy cakes, pastries, sweets and aerated drinks.
- Smoking, drinking alcohol and tobacco should be completely avoided.
- Any kind of stress, mental or physical can worsen your condition.
