Treatment for cracked thumb skin
- If your child is under there is no need to worry for thumb sucking. It is natural at this stage. Try giving him a reward for not sucking. Thumb sucking can cause teeth damage when his permanent teeth starts coming at the age of 5 years and above.
- Before going to bed, wash his thumbs with baby soap and apply some antiseptic lotion to it. After it dries off, cover it completely with some lubricating baby cream and tie a piece of cotton cloth loosely around it. Leave it for the night and in the morning; wash the dried cream off his thumbs.
- Do this every night till the cracks start to fill up.
- Apply petroleum jelly to the cracked skin 3 or 4 times a day.
- After your child takes bath and before he goes off to bed, apply calendula cream or olive oil to the thumb.
- Apply comfrey cream to his thumb as it helps in the growth of new cells.
- Give him carrots, leafy vegetables and tomatoes which are rich in vitamin A and help the growth and repair of skin.
- Include foods rich in Vitamins B and C in his diet as they keep the skin healthy and smooth.
