Cosmetic Surgery for Treating Wrinkles
Wrinkles appear as the skin starts ageing – this is a natural and inevitable process. However, there are times when some extraneous factors may cause premature wrinkles. Heavy smoking, excessive exposure to the sun’s rays and poor lifestyle are some of the factors that can damage your skin prematurely. To avoid getting premature wrinkles you should follow the preventive measures outlined below:
- Use moisturizers on the skin regularly to avoid dryness. Dry skin ages faster and is most susceptible to wrinkles.
- Eat healthy and nutritious food that gives the skin proper nutrition.
- Protect your skin from the harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun. Use sunscreen lotion and protective clothing whenever you go out in direct sunlight.
However, wrinkles may still appear on the skin, and you might want to get rid of them in whatever way possible. Dermatologists have several methods for treating wrinkles – both with help of medication and cosmetic surgery. Some of the cosmetic surgery procedures are:
- Laser Treatment: In this case a laser beam is used to destroy outer skin (called the epidermis) and stimulate the inner skin (called the dermis). The inner layer of skin then produces new cells and creates a new epidermis. However, this is a very slow process and the healing takes a long time. Besides, this process will need to be repeated several times before the skin starts to become firmer.
- Soft Tissue Fillers: In this method fat, collagen and other essential materials are inserted under the deep wrinkles so that the skin becomes fuller and the wrinkles disappear. This method may have some adverse side effects like swelling and irritation. This method too needs to be repeated every few months.
- Face-Lift: In this method excess fat from lower part of the face and neck is removed and the skin is tightened by pulling the connecting tissues and muscles. Healing may take time after applying this method, and some side effects may also appear, but a face-lift usually stays longer.
- Dermabrasion and Microabrasion: Both these methods use procedures to abrade the skin surface. The idea is to grow a new layer of skin on the area where skin has been abraded. Again, these methods can also pose some side effects.
Besides these surgical procedures there are some medical treatments – like botox injections and chemical peels – that are also used for erasing wrinkles. However, as already mentioned, all these methods have some amount of side effect and none of them is a permanent solution for wrinkles. Therefore, before adopting any of these methods consult with a dermatologist thoroughly about the benefits and hazards.
