Botulism - Prevention
Prevention from Botulism
It is possible for you to prevent the occurrences of Botulism, by avoiding the factors that cause the condition. Given below are a few recommendations that can help in the prevention of Botulism:
- When you can foods at home, make sure that you follow the proper canning techniques, so that any Botulism germs present in the food get destroyed.
- Before you consume any home-canned food, you may want to boil it for at least 10 minutes or so. Alternately, you could pressure-cook these foods at 250 degrees F for around 30 minutes.
- Do not eat, or even taste foods that appear to have gone bad. You can usually tell that the food has gotten spoiled if its package bulges or if it has a strange smell.
- Make sure that all the food you consume has been prepared and stored in the right manner.
- Avoid giving infants that are below one year of age even the smallest amount of honey or corn syrup.
